Malcolm Jones BA (Hons)
Malcolm is a British military historian, who specializes in the campaigns and battlefields of Wellington in Peninsular Spain. He is a badged member of the 'Guild of Battlefield Guides' and a member of the 'Society of Army Historical Research'.
Malcolm has always been interested in history and the military, which developed from an early age. His main love and focus has been the Second World War, the Indian Mutiny and the British army in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. His passion for the Peninsular War and its battlefields began some 25 years ago.
After serving in the Royal Signals, and obtaining his history degree, Malcolm decided to visit the place of his birth, Gibraltar. Not one for doing things by half he chose to drive there fom his home in South Wales. He set off with a purpose, a campervan and no set schedule, which was just as well as the trip lasted seven months in total. His first distraction was naturally the Pyrenees, and then came Salamanca, Badajoz, Cadiz to name but a few places. Malcolm had known of Wellington's difficulties campaigning in Spain and Portugal, but not until following in the footsteps of Wellington did Malcolm realize what he and his men had to face - a terrain and climate of unbelieveable extremes and fortified towns of magnificent grandeur.
The seed was sown. Malcolm did reach his destination, Gibraltar. Here too he was confronted by military history - a rock full in fact. It was from this time that Malcolm felt the Iberian peninsula was where he belonged. He set about studying his new military subject in earnest and it was the start of many visits.
Finally in 2003 Malcolm realized his dream and moved to live in Extremadura where he is surrounded by the battlefields of his interest. He now does what he does best - visiting the battlefields, sharing his knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for Wellington's men, their battles and campaigns by conducting Peninsular War Battlefield Tours.
As a member of the 'Guild of Battlefield Guides' with experience of leading battlefield tours to sites in Germany, Poland and of course Spain, you can be assured of an informative tour, presented in an enjoyable and interesting manner.
